WHAT TO EXPECT
If your plan includes a weekly injection
Many people feel nervous about self injecting at first. It is more approachable than it looks, and your provider guides you every step of the way.
A small, simple injection
Most GLP-1 medications are given as a subcutaneous injection, meaning just under the skin into the fatty tissue. The needle is short and fine, and most people describe little more than a quick pinch.
Common injection areas
The abdomen, the front of the thigh, and the back of the upper arm are typical areas. Your provider will confirm what is right for you and your medication.
Rotate your site each week
Using a slightly different spot each week helps keep the skin comfortable and healthy. A simple habit, like alternating sides, makes it easy to remember.
You are never on your own
Your care team provides clear instructions with your medication and is available for your questions. We want you to feel confident and supported.
This is general information, not medical advice. Always follow the specific instructions provided by your licensed provider and the medication itself.

03Clinical Research
The research behind GLP-1 treatment
The following data comes from peer-reviewed clinical trials on GLP-1 medications, published between 2022 and 2026. These are drug study outcomes, not patient testimonials or guarantees. Individual results vary significantly. Not all patients qualify. A licensed physician makes all treatment decisions.
The SURMOUNT-1 trial, published in the New England Journal of Medicine, studied the effect of Tirzepatide on body composition over 72 weeks. Researchers measured changes in fat mass, waist circumference, and cardiometabolic markers including blood pressure and blood sugar. This clinical study was conducted by the drug manufacturer on the branded formulation. Results do not represent what any individual patient will experience.
The SURMOUNT-5 trial, published in the New England Journal of Medicine in 2025, was the first head-to-head clinical comparison between Tirzepatide and Semaglutide over 72 weeks. This study was conducted by the drug manufacturer on the branded formulations. Results from this trial belong to those specific drugs and their studies. They do not represent what any individual patient will experience with compounded formulations through KERNX Health.
A peer-reviewed study published in JMIR in September 2025 evaluated weight outcomes in patients enrolled in a remote GLP-1 program over 12 months. Both Tirzepatide and Semaglutide patient groups were studied. This was an independent observational study. Individual results vary significantly and are not guaranteed. Not all patients qualify for treatment.

Truth vs Myths
Honest answers about GLP-1 care
There is a lot of noise around GLP-1 medications. We believe clear, honest information helps you make the right decision for yourself. Here is what is true, and what is not.
Myth
GLP-1 medications are the easy way out.
The truth
These medications are a clinical tool, not a shortcut. They work alongside real effort with food, movement, and habits. People still do the work. The medication helps make that work more sustainable by supporting the body in ways that willpower alone often cannot reach.
Myth
Compounded medication means lower quality.
The truth
Compounded medications are prepared by licensed pharmacies that operate under strict oversight. KERNX works with an FDA registered 503B pharmacy, a category held to rigorous manufacturing standards. The active ingredient is the same one studied in clinical research. Quality comes from the standards a pharmacy is held to, not from the label on the box.
Myth
You will regain everything the moment you stop.
The truth
What happens after treatment depends on the plan around it. The habits you build, the support you have, and how care is tapered all shape what comes next. This is exactly why a physician led program matters. The goal is lasting change, supported by a provider who plans for the long term, not just the first few months.
Myth
It is only about appearance.
The truth
For many people this is about health, not looks. Carrying excess weight is linked to a range of health concerns, and addressing it can be part of a broader plan for wellbeing. The reasons people pursue care are personal, and they deserve to be taken seriously rather than judged.
Myth
You can start without seeing a real provider.
The truth
Responsible care always begins with a licensed physician. At KERNX, a provider reviews your health history before anything else. Any program that skips that step is one to be cautious about. A real evaluation protects you, and it is not a formality. It is the foundation of safe care.
This information is general and educational. It is not medical advice and not a determination of eligibility. Individual results vary, and not all patients qualify. Always speak with a licensed provider about your specific situation.
Living Well on Treatment
The medication is one piece. You are the rest.
A GLP-1 quiets your appetite. What you do with the room it creates is where real, lasting change is built. Here is the playbook our physicians want every patient to know.
Fuel
Protein is the one number you protect every day.
When you eat less, every bite has to count, and protein is what keeps your body burning fat instead of muscle. A common clinical target is 1.2 to 1.6 grams per kilo of body weight daily, often landing near 100 to 140 grams. Spread it across the day, roughly 25 to 40 grams a meal, so your body can actually use it.
Strength
Lift something heavy a few times a week.
The medication handles your appetite. Resistance training tells your body to hold onto the muscle that drives your metabolism. Research suggests pairing a GLP-1 with regular strength work and enough protein meaningfully lowers how much muscle is lost. Start with two or three sessions a week. Squats, pushups, and rows count. No gym required.
Hydrate
Thirst gets quiet too, so drink on a schedule.
GLP-1 medications can dial back your sense of thirst the same way they dial back hunger. Staying ahead of it eases two of the most common early side effects, nausea and constipation. A general goal is around 90 ounces a day for women and 125 for men. Sip between meals rather than gulping at the table, and add citrus or mint if plain water bores you.
Fiber
Slower digestion means fiber earns its place.
Because these medications slow how fast your stomach empties, constipation is one of the most common complaints. Fiber from oats, berries, lentils, chia, and leafy greens helps keep things moving and adds substance to smaller meals. Build it back gradually after any rough nausea days, and always raise your water at the same time so fiber helps rather than backfires.
Rest
Sleep is a weight tool, not a luxury.
Short sleep nudges hunger hormones up and willpower down, quietly working against everything else you are doing. Treat your nights as part of the plan. Consistent sleep supports steadier energy, better food choices, and the recovery your muscles need after training. The unglamorous habits are often the ones that carry your results the furthest.
Order of Operations
Protein first, then plants, then the rest.
When your appetite fades fast, the sequence of your plate matters. Eat your protein first so you get it in before you feel full, then your fiber rich vegetables, then everything else. Keep easy options on hand for the days nothing sounds good, like Greek yogurt, eggs, or a clean shake, so a small appetite never becomes an empty one.
